Biography

BRBQ Band is a quintet specialising in authentic Brazilian jazz. Combining flowing melody, rhythmic grace and open, breathing improvisation, BRBQ brings a freshness and authenticity to playing the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal, João Bosco and other giants of Brazilian jazz. Four distinctive voices in the Scottish jazz scene, James Brady (trumpet/flugelhorn), Paul Towndrow (whistles/sax) Mario Caribé (bass) and Stu Brown (drums/percussion), join forces with one of the UK’s leading interpreters of Brazilian piano styles, Ed Rice.

Since its inception in 2022, BRBQ has thrilled audiences across Scotland and beyond, including sell-out shows at Glasgow's Jazz at the Merchants House, Edinburgh's Jazz Bar and Aberdeen's Blue Lamp, as well as receiving UNESCO funding to develop new material in 2024.
