Biography
"Celebrating Irving Berlin" tells the story of the composer's 100 years of life in words and song. So many beautifully familiar melodies sung as solos and duets by mezzo and tenor, along with piano medleys encouraging you to hum along, should you so wish.
Mezzo soprano Jane Monari hails from Philadelphia and completed a BM in Voice Performance at the Juilliard School, and a MA in Singing at the Royal Academy of Music. She is a graduate of the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
She has performed and covered many operatic roles with Scottish Opera, Opera Holland Park Young Artist Programe 2022, OperaUpClose, The Virtual Opera Project, Opera at the King's Head, and the Juilliard School, and is currently a regular member of Scottish Opera's freelance chorus and also sings across Scotland with The All Sorts, a cappella ladies quartet.
Tenor Christian Schneeberger has appeared throughout the UK as a recitalist, oratory soloist and opera singer. The Glasgow born tenor graduated with BMus (Hons) in Vocal Performance in 2013, completing his Masters of Music in Performance at RCS as a scholarship student.
His opera career has grown from being a founding member of À La Canto, touring with Opera Bohemia and in recent years as a regular member of the Scottish Opera freelance chorus.
Most recently he has played the Crook and Charles Edward in Scottish Opera’s production of “Candide” which received many glowing five star reviews. Along with recitals, Christian will be appearing in Scottish Opera’s performances of Marx in London and La Traviata in Spring of 2024. He also appears regularly across Scotland with Opera Alba and Scozzesi.
Pianist Derek Clark was born in Glasgow, and is an Honours graduate of the RSAMD and the University of Durham. He also studied at the London Opera Centre before joining Welsh National Opera as a repetiteur in 1977. He has recently retired as Head of Music at Scottish Opera, after 26 years, where he conducted more than 30 operas for the company.
He has provided re-orchestrations for recent touring productions of Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, Die Fledermaus, Carmen, Rodelinda and The Elixir of Love. He works as an accompanist, appearing regularly throughout the country, and is a regular guest coach at the major conservatoires and and colleges and at the National Opera Studio. He also composes and arranges music for a wide variety of people and circumstances.
