Biography

Frances and Emi met during their studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, bonding over their love for contemporary Art Song, with shared conviction in the importance of societally relevant and accessible programming.

Emi See is an American pianist who specialises in the performance of new music. Her recent research deals with the temporal aspects of post-tonal music, both phenomenologically and musicologically, and looks for moments of simultaneity as a moment for connection between herself, the audience, the space, and the music she performs. She has performed extensively in the U.S., U.K., Italy and Belgium as a soloist and ensemble pianist. In the 2021-2022 season, she made her debut as a soloist with Spectra ensemble in De Bijloke (BE), and will be performing Ligeti’s Piano Concerto in June.

Emi has participated in the masterclasses of Ursula Oppens, Hie-Yon Choi, Ralph van Raat, Thomas Rosenkranz, Kathryn Brown, Steven Osborne, Peter Takacs, and Daniel Shapiro. Emi holds both a Postgraduate Soloist and Masters Degree from Kask/Conservatorium (BE), where she studied under Daan Vandewalle. She also holds a Bachelors of Music with First Degree Honors from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (UK), studying with Aaron Shorr and Sinae Lee, and is also an alumni of Idyllwild Arts Academy (US).

With her base in Glasgow, Frances Copp is proudly a Live Music Now Scotland Musician. Having gained her Masters in Vocal Performance under the tutelage of Elizabeth McCormack, she has been fortunate to also study under Karen Cargill, receiving coaching from musicians such as Rachel Nicholls, Chris Underwood, Roy Howat, Timothy Dean and Tony Legge.

A versatile Mezzo-soprano with a passion for the recital and oratorio genres, Frances is also a Paediatric Doctor and an alumnus of King's College London (MBBS, BSc), balancing her clinical work alongside performance and singing teaching. Frances seeks to use her work as a musician to give voice to those lesser heard, with a particular interest in repertoire that explores the female voice and narrative. She is passionate about inclusivity within the Arts, with a strong belief in the necessity of music for every member of our community.
