Glisk
I was moved by how memory, reflected creatively in story and music, can remind us of how diverse tree species' lives are forever entwined and sustain our own. The music and stories were poignant, profound and celebratory. The outdoor performance was a delightful and timely music-led community experience.
It has been an honour to compose music for Glisk - a hugely vibrant and talented ensemble who approach their work with an open mind, forensic attention to detail, and musical execution drenched in emotion, power, and virtuosity.

Biography
Glisk - a gleam of sunlight through a cloud; a glow of heat from a fire. Figuratively, a glimpse of the good (Shetlandic).
Glisk are a contemporary string quartet based in Glasgow, made up of violinists Helena Zambrano Quispe and Kirsty Orton, violist Shelagh McKail, and cellist Jessica Kerr. With a focus on exploring new repertoire together, Glisk have thoroughly enjoyed adding to their repertoire seven works - commissioned by them - and inspired by the tree stories collected in Stories of People and Trees. These works range across classical, traditional and jazz genres and celebrate in musical form the stories behind our most loved trees. The Stories of People and Trees suite of music represents a full recital length programme; alternatively selections can be made from the collection.
Glisk bring their trademark friendly presentation and energy to any programme, and are happy to perform a variety of repertoire in any performance - and any venue.
