Repertoire
Joseph has a diverse repertoire of Western art music from Bach to the present day, as well as being able to play a little jazz! In general, the more you're able to accept programmes that are part of the existing schedule, the lower the fees can be. Joseph is always interested in discussing any new proposals or ventures.
Joseph is currently working on a series of Chopin recitals to be given during 2023-24 and 2024-25.
Biography
Joseph Long is one of Scotland's finest concert pianists. His extensive musical knowledge and repertoire, built up over a period of well over thirty years of playing and teaching, embrace a vast canon of music from Bach to the present day. Joseph takes pride not only in ensuring that every concert performance is prepared and presented to the highest standards in technique and musicianship, but also in personally crafting every programme in such a way as to offer something meaningful to the particular audience he is playing for.
Spoken introductions are an important part of Joseph's performances, and longer talks, lecture-recitals or workshops and masterclasses can also be given on request. Written programme notes can also be provided if you would like these.
With past recitals, lecture-recitals and masterclasses in venues as diverse as the Edinburgh Society of Musicians, St.-Martin's-in-the-Fields in London, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire, the Calcutta School of Music and the University of Almeria in Spain, Joseph has experience in catering to the needs of many types of audience.
Joseph maintains a keen interest in musical education and in the imparting of knowledge to others, and is a teacher of advanced piano studies at the North East of Scotland Music School and at the University of Aberdeen.
