Biography

Junyan Chen (b. 2000) excels as a concert pianist and chamber musician across diverse musical genres. Her performances are distinguished by a blend of virtuoso technique, expressive warmth, and vibrant musicality, showcased in prestigious venues globally, including the Wigmore Hall, KKL Lucerne, Brighton Dome, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall, Guangzhou Grand Theatre, Xiamen Concert Hall, and Takatsuki Gendai Gekjio.

As a soloist, Junyan has collaborated with esteemed orchestras such as the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra, and XinZhu Symphony Orchestra. Her performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 4, conducted by Edward Gardner with the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, was live-streamed on Classic-FM UK.

Junyan's dedication to contemporary music is evident in her collaboration with Hans Abrahamsen, performing his Piano Concerto under Franck Ollu's baton with the Manson Ensemble. Invited to Eleanor Alberga's 2022 'Arcadia' music festival, she recorded and performed new compositions set for an upcoming album release. Her commitment to modern repertoire extends to collaborations with composers like Mark Anthony-Turnage and Dominic Muldowney.

Junyan's debut solo album, "It's Time," released by Linn Records in December 2022, underscores her affinity for contemporary composers exploring cultural themes.

After receiving her first Honours BMus degree, first Honours MA degree, and the Principal's Award with a full scholarship supported by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and the Bicentenary scholarship, Junyan continues her Advanced Diploma with a full scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music under Professor Joanna MacGregor CBE. She has been awarded Aud Jebsen Piano fellowship 2024-2025. Engaging in masterclasses with Pascal Roge, Thomas Kreuzberger, Paul Badura-Skoda, Christopher Elton, Tomas Vasary, Yevgeny Sudbin, Tamara Stefanovich, Adrian Brendel, and Claudio Martinez Mehner at Prussica Cove IMS 2023.

In 2023, she was selected as a Semi-finalist in the prestigious Sydney International Piano Competition. Junyan continues to expand her artistic horizons, preparing for The Leeds International Piano Competition 2024 and the International Piano Competition of Orleans 2024.
