Biography

Katrina Lee is a multi-award-winning violinist from Yorkshire, currently based in Scotland. She is a distinguished alumna of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she graduated with first-class honours in 2014 and received her Master of Music in 2016 under the tutelage of Professor Andrea Gajic. Katrina's academic journey was marked by numerous accolades, including the Hilda Bailey Award, Ian D. Watt Award, Governors Prize for Strings, Robert Highgate Scholarship, Governors Prize for Chamber Music, Musicians Company Goldman Award, and recognition as a Young Artist with the Scottish Ensemble in 2014 and 2016.

Katrina currently holds the position of Principal Second Violin with the Scottish Ballet Orchestra and following her appointment in 2017, she has enjoyed mastering the rich ballet repertoire; including Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and Nutcracker, and Prokofiev's Cinderella. As well as ballet, Katrina has performed extensively with other notable orchestras and ensembles across the UK, including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, and Royal Northern Sinfonia. A highlight of her work has been touring, which has enabled her to visit many places and perform in concert halls across Asia, South America, and Europe.

In her musical pursuits, Katrina aspires not only to excel as a violinist but also to amplify the voices of historically overlooked composers, making her mark as a champion of diversity and inclusion in the classical music landscape. Her passion lies in collaborating with like-minded musicians who share her commitment to showcasing lesser-heard parts of the classical musical heritage. This commitment is reflected in her involvement with various ensembles, including the Escocia Duo (Violin and Classical Guitar), Lee-Horvath Duo (Violin and Piano), and Isola String Quartet.

Katrina has gained recognition in her work showcasing lesser-heard composers and will be recording her debut album with Grammy award-winning label Delphian Records this summer. She has been generously supported on the making of this album by Creative Scotland, Chamber Music Scotland and Athenaeum Award from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
