Biography
Scottish-based violinist Steve Bingham initially studied at the Royal Academy of Music. In 1985 he formed the Bingham String Quartet, an ensemble which has become one of the foremost in the UK, with an enviable reputation for both classical and contemporary repertoire. The Quartet has recorded numerous CDs and has worked for radio and television both in the UK and as far afield as Australia.
Steve has appeared as guest leader with many orchestras including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and English National Ballet. He has given solo recitals both in the UK and America and his concerto performances include works by
Bach, Vivaldi, Bruch, Prokofiev, Mendelssohn and Sibelius, given in venues as prestigious as St. Johns' Smith Square and the Royal Albert Hall.
Steve now regularly tours with a variety of solo concerts and he is much in demand for workshops on looping technology. Steve has released six solo albums. They range from "The Persistence Of Vision", which features the Bach D minor Partita, and works by Michael Nyman, to "Touch", a 10-track covers CD released during lockdown. Steve has also released many single tracks, and has an active YouTube channel featuring many weird and wonderful video creations!
As "Duos with a Difference" Steve also gives duo recitals, on both acoustic and electric violins and violas, with his wife Brenda Stewart.
Steve & Brenda live in a converted church in Aberdeenshire where they are able to combine their music-making and recording with a love of wildlife and the Scottish countryside.
