Wild Men of the Baroque

Wild Men of the Baroque

Superhuman virtuosity, a laughing recklessness and style you can't buy.

A wonderful evening of music... It's fair to say you came, you saw, you conquered. The audience were totally captivated for the entire concert, and I have received numerous messages expressing their delight at having attended.

Biography

Scottish born recorder superstar Piers Adams - hailed in the Washington Post as 'the reigning recorder virtuoso in the world today' - and his Red Priest cohort, harpsichord maestro David Wright, bring all of the energy and freedom of the iconic quartet into their duo recitals. With an astonishing, larger-than-life range of virtuoso techniques and expressive colours they walk boldly through the wild side of the baroque, and as natural raconteurs, they lead the audience through the unchartered landscape of the era with fascinating insights into the music and instruments – and some spicy anecdotes about the lives of the composers.

Their journey begins in the surreal musical world of the Seicento (17th century), a fascinating, forgotten era when fantasy and invention ruled over form and formality - the focus of their CD 'Wild Men of the Seicento', released to high acclaim in 2015 on Red Priest Recordings. From the earliest sonatas of the Italian school to the bizarre meanderings of Heinrich Biber this music never ceases to amaze the innocent bystander! From here the duo moves into the more familiar territory of the High Baroque with virtuoso music by Corelli, Handel, Vivaldi and others.

In addition to their stellar career with Red Priest, involving concert tours to all corners of the globe, Adams and Wright have performed their popular 'Wild Men of the Baroque' programme extensively throughout the UK and in Germany, Lithuania and the USA.

This is a must-hear programme for cognoscenti as well as those new to early music.
